Lots of things have been going on since my last e-mail.

Gavin and the club Presdient managed to get ranking oints at the Sssex Open. We then followed this with third place (of 12) in the epee at the ULU team event. The team was Joel, Gavin and Roger. More points for Alex, Gavin and David followed at the Bedford Open.

Joshua came second at the Surrey Novice Foil.

After that came the trip to France which set a new standard of what the club can do.

>From there the circus moved on to the Miller Hallet - we'll ignore the men's results but Nike held her points in the Milner Barry. In the Wilkinson Sword we (Joel Roger and SAtya from Westminister School) came 11th of 16th.

Finally we had a good foil match against Salle Poisson d'Or (Leatherhead) - with Chirs pulling out a win ffor the A team (Chris, Max, and Gareth), a comfortable win for the B team (David Lowe, Joshua, and Mike Bourke), and a narrow defeat for the C team (Lara, Charles, and Steve). Congratlations to all involved and the debutants ( Mike, Max, Gareth, Lara, and Joshua for their first team appearances).

Sussex Open / Socials

We had a decent outing at the Sussex Open - Gavin,
John and myself all made the L64 in the Epee and Nick (Fishosy) the L32
in th Foil. Good to be back at Posrtslade.

Charlie is organising teams for the ULU Team event (Uni London Union,
Malet Street, near Heals) - teams of three at each weapon - we'll try and
take as many down as we can as it's a good fun event - here's a br on
site - we hold the epee and were second in the foil - e-mail is above.
Date is Sat 20th Oct .

The Miller Hallet / Milner Barry (Epee) is in Harrow w/e 24th Nov -
thereis another epee team event for each we'll try and get a couple of
teams in. Final event this term will be the Barwell Cup (prob 9th
December) which is a mixed team event (Mens Foil, women's Foil, Epee,
Sabre) again we'll try and get as many teams n as we can - five is our
record.

The social event for 3rd Jan will be a vist to the Terracotta Army
exhibition at the British Museum - I'll book tickets by the end of the
month if you could get back to me.

The Christmas Dinner will be on December 20th , probably at Cafe Purple
again.

Isle of Wight

A very good time was had by all - big hurrah to Ez who finsihed 38/75 in the foil and got a ranking at the first attempt. He almost did the same in epee, beating last years winner in the pools - this was less than three hours after Alan gave him his first lesson. Gavin and Nick made the last 64.

Foil - congratulations to Jo who came 10th and Nick F who came 21. (Of 59) in the foil.

Jean's visit to Streatham obviously paid off as he finished 9th.

We woz robbed !!

A good day out at the Surrey Epee and Sabre -Chris Towl came 5th - Gavin
lost by the odd point to Graham Miles to finish 14th and Chris Coton
came 13th in the epee. Ceri came 5th in the sabre. Can't remember Steve
and Spencers results and refuse to remember mine.

The sabreurs had a good outing but were unsucessful.

However the best was yet to come - the epeeists (Chris Coton, Joel and
Gavin) beat Guildford 45-40 and then duffed LTFC C. They then faced
Redhill and Reigate Epee Club, including Chris Howser (2005 British
Men's Epee Champion) - we won 45-41 with Joel holding out against Chris
Howser charge. The final was a truncated affair against LTFC due to the
hour - which ended up 45-36 based on three DEs henc e the e-mail' title.

Congratulations to Tarenn for coming sixth, everyone else for loads of good results - Padraig came close against Tim Buzwell - and Aidan pulled off a blinder of a come back (12 - 4 down at one point) to get into the rankings. We finished joint third in the foil team listings.

An Epic Weekend

Vicky won the Mount-Haes (U14) Girls Foil and Master at Arms at the Public Schools Fencing Championships, was 5th in the Epee and 7th in the Sabre.

We beat Guildford on Friday - Gavin, Joel and Chris (Towl) winning the epee, Gavin coming from behind in the last leg; Bob, Hlly and Martin won teh foil; Peter, Aidan and a Guildfordite won the B team Foil; Sarah (Morgan) and Pod performed gallantly in the sabre as we got the kitchen sink thrown at us.

Toby made the L16 at the Invicta Open (Epee). Nick (Stuart) and Joel made the points - Joel going out 15-14 to Howard West. Bob was third in the foil, while Martin, Nick Fihosy, Jean and Alwyn all made the L32. The star, though was Tarenn, who came third in the Women's Foil.

We then followed this up with a supercharged effort at the Surrey Novices and Intermediates with two wins, a second and a third - Afra won the Women's Novice Foil, to be our first success from the junior section, and Hamish the Men's, with Pod picking up a bronze.

Ewan made the L8 of the Men's Intermediate Epee, to be put out by Gavin, who finished third. Rick then completed the medal haul by finishing second in the Men's Intermediate Foil (The Captain's Cup).

Congratulations to all concerned and to Tony for his coaching and support.

Congratulations to Bob for a L16 at Edinburgh, and to Vicky whose school (Bishop Challenger) won all three events she was in at the British Schools Team Championships and was at least second in her foil event at the Public Schools today

A busy weekend -

Bob came second in the Hampshire Open, losing 15-13 to Mike Questier in the
final. Nick (Fihosy) made the L32 and Andy and Martin were in the points.

Vicky came 8th in the U14 Epee at the British Youth Championships and 13th
in the Sabre.

The epeeists (Joel, Chris Towl and myself) beat University of London Union
45-44, Joel scoring three hits to win from 44-42 down.

A mixed team (David Franklin, me, Hilly, Pod, Ken and Andy) beat Poly by at
least 75-62 (omitting some of David's scores).

And Hilly has been selected for Northern Ireland in the 5 Nations.

Barwell Cup

The Barwell Cup, Surrey’s premier inter club team event was held at Beverly School, New Malden on 12^th December. Ten teams from Streatham, Wimbledon, Guildford and Kingston fencing clubs took part.

The closely fought competition was won by Guildford with one victory more than Wimbledon. Defending holders Streatham were just behind in third. This was Guildford’s first win in the competition, which has been held since 1952.

Jo Bowyer of Streatham won the individual women’s foil title with a clean sweep of her opponent’s, a feat repeated by Brian Harkins (Wimbledon) in the men’s foil and Neale Thomas (Guildford) in the epee. The sabre title was decided by a three way play off between Steve Pope, Chris Schofield (both Guildford) and Murray Morrison (Kingston), with Chris Schofield prevailing.

Congratulations to Vicky for winning the SE U14 Girl's Sabre and coming second in the Girl's U14 Epee. And to the B team for coming 14th of 28 in the Wilkinson Sword. And to the girls for a hard fought fourth in the women's team event.

Streatham Fencing Club enjoyed it's best ever set of results this weekend, with competitors fencing around the country. Hilary Byrne won the Women's Foil event at the Derry Open, following it up with a bronze in the Women's Epee. Husband Padraig also chipped in with a quarter final spot in the Men's Foil. Joel Collyer came fifth out of an entry of over sixty in the Bedford Open, and Nick Stuart narrowly lost in the quarter finals of the Sir William Perkins Open to the eventual winner, Howard West of London Thames.

A thorough drubbing by Wimbledon (admittedly we were using some of their fencers to ensure that all three weapons were fenced) was balanced by a substantial win over a valiant Poly team who were less battle hardened than the Streatham team.

Surrey Youth Chmapionships

Congratulations to Vicky, who won the U14 Girl's Foil, U14 Girl's Epee and was second in the U14 Mixed Sabre, losing only to a boy 15-11.

SE Team Challenge

We came third in the SE at both Foil and Epee. The Epeeists (Nike, Joel and

myself) started off showing distinct signs of ring rust losing to Sussex A

(i.e. Crawley Swords) and Guildford with Joel keeping the scores

respectable), before digging deep to beat Sussex B and C. The decider was

won by Sussex A after double hits by Dudley Tredger (Sussex) from Neale

Thomas (Guildford).



In the Foil, Tarenn and Victor made their debuts, and lead by Chris blasted

their way to the semi-finals - in which they narrowly lost to Kent, Chris

forcing the scores back to 45-43.

Club Chmpionships

A record entry this year - 13 in the foil, and 15 in the epee and sabre - a total of 22 fencers. Hilary swept the board for the women's events.

Foil went to a 5-4 Barrage between Jean and Nick Fihosy which Jean won. Joel was third. In the epee, Joel won, followed by Nick Stuart and Toby. John stormed his way through the sabre, with David second and Joel again in third place. Joel thus won the Master at Arms by a mile (14 points) with Jean second on 9 and Nick Fihosy third on 7.

Club Novices Electric Foil

Apolgies for running out of time - Padraig, Vince and Phil were undeafeted at the end, so are declared joint winners. We will hold this event again in November (annually, if there is sufficient demand), but organise it differently to fit it in.

Baldur Shield

Congratulations to Alan's other club, Club des Artistes on their win (even if one of their team was from Streatham - the result did not reflect the qulaity of fencing on our part. Well done to all.
