Surrey Novice and Intermediate Foil 25th March 2007

This years event was held as nearby Dulwich college, which is always an added bonus on a Sunday morning. There was a good haul of medals for streatham fencers, Selina Hill was in the final of the ladies intermediate foil and came away with 2nd place. Taking advantage of the opportunity to fence in the novice foil earlier in the morning and she also took 3rd place in that, perhaps it was only a warm up for the intermediate event.

In the men's novice foil newcomer Elliot Nash took 3rd place and Charles Grose came a respectable 5th place in the mens intermediate foil.

Surrey Team Open 02/07

A good day out at the Surrey Epee and Sabre the epeeists (Chris Coton, Joel and Gavin) beat Guildford 45-40 and then duffed LTFC C. They then faced Redhill and Reigate Epee Club, including Chris Howser (2005 British Men's Epee Champion) - we won 45-41 with Joel holding out against Chris Howser charge. The final was a truncated affair against LTFC due to the late hour - which ended up 45-36 based on three DEs all fenced at the same time.

ULU FENCING LONDON TEAM OPEN 11/06

Streatham Fencing Club won the Epee at the ULU (University of London Union) Fencing London Team Open. Streatham beat ULU 44-43 in the semi-finals after a tense match in which the scores were level almost until time ran out – at the end, Streatham’s Joel Collyer abandoned his usual cautious approach and chased ULU’s Graham Miles down the piste, catching him for the winning point. Streatham then went on to comfortably beat London Thames Fencing Club (Barnes) in the final. In the Foil, Streatham enjoyed an easy passage to the final, although it required an assured debut by teenager Selina Hill to turn 15-7 deficit to a 20-15 lead in their opening match to set them on their way. Unfortunately, Salle Gadaski (based in Moorfields) proved too strong for Streatham in the final, despite an epic fight back by Streatham’s Nick Fihosy in the final leg. Nick was compensated the following day when his daughter, Ayesha, won the South East U12 Girls’ Foil to qualify for the British Youth Championships. London Thames won the Sabre event in what was a successful inaugural event event in which 17 team s took part.
