This is the press release for the 2003 Barwell Cup, held on the 14th December:
The Barwell Cup, which is the county's inter-club competition, was held today at Epsom College, with teams from the major local clubs - Streatham, Wimbledon, Guildford, Kingston and Southside (Croydon) taking part.
Streatham won with 36 victories over Wimbledon's 34 and Guildford's 32. The competition was closely fought, with Guildford's challenge in the epee and sabre events being overhauled by Streatham's dominance in foil, while Wimbledon performed with their customary proficiency across the board.
The Streatham team consisted of Joel Collyer (epee), Jo Bowyer (women's foil), Chris Coton (men's foil) and David Jackson (sabre). Both Jo and Chris won their individual events, while Joel was pipped to the post in the epee by Guildford's Neale Thomas, a Welsh international. The individual sabre was won by rising junior Chris Schofield, also of Guildford.
