JUNIOR ENROLMENT FORM

Venue
The club meets every Thursday from September to the start of July (expect Christmas and Easter) between 7:30 - 9:30, Dunraven School, Mount Nod Road, Streatham - about 5 mins walk from Streatham Hill station (Map). When we are not fencing (e.g. over the summer) we usually organise social events.

We meet in the gym at the back of the school - use the entrance to the school furthest up Mount Nod and go round the back of the school - the gym is the building on the left, with the entrance under the covered way and parking in front of it. If coming by public transport there are trains to Streatham Hill and buses along Streatham High Road. The 417 bus stops near the school

What to wear
Tracksuit bottoms (thick), trainers (Hi-Tec Squash / Indoor shoes are ideal) and tee-shirt, and if possible an old stout glove for your left or right hand. We provide the rest of the equipment for beginners. Once you decide you like the sport, then you can begin buying your own equipment - but that's a gradual investment.

About the sport
Modern fencing is derived from the 'Noble Art and Science of Defence' of sword fighting - because it is such an enjoyable activity, both mentally and physically, it evolved to make participation safe and become the modern sport of today. As the emphasis in fencing is on skill, rather than speed, it is a sport that can be taken up at any age and continued until any age, by both sexes.
There are three different weapons in fencing - foil, epee and sabre. Each requires different techniques and so appeals to different people.
But to learn more, you'll have to come along and find out - and then you can see what we get up to and why we are so enthusiastic about it.
Fencing's a very good sport for left-handers - they learn to fence right-handers all the time, but the right-handers don't fence the left handers nearly so often.

About the club
The club was founded in 1949 and is one of the oldest in the country and encourages fencers of all abilities and ambitions and prides itself on it's inclusive atmosphere. When we are not fencing (e.g. over the summer) we usually organise social events.
